SlimTimer API Released

Posted by Richard White Tue, 17 Oct 2006 18:27:00 GMT

With all the server issues from last week resolved, I quietly pushed out the SlimTimer API on Sunday. From the site itself:

With the SLIMTIMER API developers can write rich desktop or web applications that integrate seamlessly with SLIMTIMER. The API is RESTful and fluent in XML, YAML and JSON.

The Public API allows secure access to SLIMTIMER user data for syncing with external applications. We also have a Trusted API for those companies and individuals interested in a tighter integration with the SLIMTIMER platform including importing your existing users into SLIMTIMER and branded versions of the timer client.

To obtain and api key and get started simply signup for a SLIMTIMER account and click on the API link after you login.

I look forward to seeing what inventive apps and integrations are created and certainly let me know if you’ve built something based on the API.

I’m also tinkering with the idea of a contest, with prizes, to get the creative juices going. What do you think, would you be interested in a programming contest?.

Finally, don’t hesitate to ask for help or for extra functionality via either on the SlimTimer developers forum or by emailing me directly. Enjoy!

    Where I can find something based on the API ? :)

    @didaio: There’s nothing yet (except the API documentation) that’s based on the API. It’s only been about 48 hours since it was released so you might have to wait a few more days for the apps to start rolling in ;)

    I think a programming competition would be a great idea, unfortunately I don’t have the programming skills to partake… but it would be cool to see what comes of it. I looked for a “support your cause” link to PayPal or something but didn’t see it. I’d be willing to make a small donation towards a prize.

    It could be interesting if it could be implemented in a project management webapp like activeCollab, BaseCamp or GoPlan. No body is working on this idea ? Do you think it’s a good idea ? Do web companies would trust on a bundle of useful tools for managing their team?

    If I’ll know Ruby on Rails, I will do it !

    Richard;

    The api looks great! Clean and simple, not to mention well-documented (which is a rarity for 1st release APIs). Well worth the wait – I can’t wait to get started (too bad I’m so busy!).

    I think a programming competition would be great, I would enter!

    hopefully this leads to a firefox extension, because as of now its inconvenient to use all the time, but would be nice if it was integrated….hint hint

    Thanks for the great software. I’m going to use this where I work. I’m the graduate assistant for the Women’s Resource Center at the University of Houston. Again, thanks for the wonderful stuff!!

    Hi Richard – nice job – I use it every day. My only request is that you keep is as simple and as clean as it is now. I use climtimer with bubbles. While it would be nice to have more functionality in the dt app I just love the simplicity and usability.
